Mr. Jimmy Thompson “Tom” Rucker, 85, of Elberton, Georgia passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Athens Regional Medical Center. Tom was the son of the late James W. “Jim” and Reba Yeargin Rucker.He was widowed after 55 years of marriage to the late Aletha Carlton Rucker.Tom worked in the trucking industry all his life, having owned and operated Rucker Auto & Truck Repair.He was a faithful member of Dewy Rose Baptist Church. Tom is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Tony Hover;two grandchildren:Lauren Hover of Savannah, and LeeAnn Hover of Statesboro;two sisters: Phyllis Brooks (Steve) of Elberton, and Frances Guest (Herman) of Carlton;and three brothers: Bobby Rucker (Foye), Billy Rucker (Betty Sue), and Richard Rucker (Bridgett) all of Elberton.He also leaves behind a long-time friend, Gwen Turner of Elberton; a brother-in-law, Ray Harris (Ogretta) of Bowman; a sister-in-law, Betty Carlton (George) of Elberton;and several nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate Tom’s life was held on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 4:30 p.m. at Dewy Rose Baptist Church, with Rev. Kenny Martin and Rev. Gary Purvis officiating.A time of visitation was at 3:30 p.m. just prior to the service.Interment followed at Elmhurst Cemetery, Elberton.Tom’s nephews served as pallbearers.
