Mr. Truett Smith of Elberton, GA died in the comfort of his home on Saturday morning, October 22, 2016, at the age of 92.

Mr. Smith was born in Hopeful, GA on October 7, 1924, son of the late G.C. Smith and Rosa Gray Smith. He obtained an LLB from the University of Georgia. He worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Attorney General’s Office, and as a Referee in Bankruptcy. In 1973, Mr. Smith relocated to Elberton where he joined the Law Office of William F. Grant as an attorney. After a successful career representing Elberton and the surrounding areas, he retired from Truett Smith Attorney at Law. Mr. Smith served Elberton civically as a member of the Kiwanis Club, as a member of the Bar Association, and as a member of First Baptist Church where he was a former Sunday School teacher and former Deacon. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran having served during WWII and an avid stamp collector.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Glenna Brock Smith; son and daughter-in-law, Brock and Debra Smith of Cumming, GA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Marcial “Buddy” and Weesie Brock of Edna, Texas; sister-in-law, Joan Smith of Marietta, GA; and nephews, nieces, and their spouses: Pat and Rosalie Smith of West Columbia, SC, John Smith of West Columbia, SC, Louie and Jan Shirah of Jacksonville Beach, FL, Donald and Jane Shirah of Hopeful, GA, Beth and Tommy Thompson of Cordele, GA, Barbara and Richard Harden of Albany, GA, David and Cathryn Brock of Boerne, TX, Susan B. McGee of San Antonio, TX, Donna B. and Darrell Flatt of Tyler, TX, and Mark and Wendy Brock of College Station, TX. Also surviving are numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings: George T. Smith, Pat G. Smith, and Lynda S. Mercer; and nephew and niece: George Smith and Marcia Easler.

The funeral service honoring the life of Mr. Truett Smith will be held on Thursday, October 27, at 2 o’clock in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Elberton with the Rev. Gary Purvis officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery.

The family is at the residence on Lake Forest Circle and will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church of Elberton on Thursday from 12:30-1:30 prior to the service.
