Valrie Pitts Smith

Valrie Pitts Smith, 80, of Carlton, GA, passed away Monday, January 2, 2012 at Athens Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Smith was born in Oglethorpe County, daughter of the late Walt and Ruby Bell Pitts.She was married to the late Sheriff Horace Gene Smith of Oglethorpe County. Mrs. Smith is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law:Wayne Smith, and Sheriff Mike Smith and his wife, Gail Smith, all of Carlton;two grandchildren: Jessica Gorman and Jonathan Hemphill; and one great-grandchild, Katie Gorman.She is also survived by three sisters:Dora Bell Lynch, Agnes Bridges, and Sybil Walker;a sister-in-law, Betty Booth;and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband and parents; and siblings, Jewel McDaniel, Geneva Holcombe, and Oneal Pitts. A service celebrating Mrs. Smith’s life will be Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at The Chapel of Hicks Funeral Home.Rev. David Burt will officiate.Visitation will be Tuesday, January 3, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hicks Funeral Home.Interment will be at Burt’s Methodist Church Cemetery.
