Mrs. Virginia Nelms Colvard, 95, of Clairemont Ave., Decatur, GA, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend to so many, was taken into the hands of God while sleeping in her home on September 17, 2017.
Born in 1921 to William and Nettie Nelms of Elberton, she married Stewart Brown Colvard in 1940. They later moved to Decatur, Georgia where they raised three sons: Stewart Kirksey Colvard, David Michael Colvard, and Cohen Stacy Colvard.
She is survived by her son Dr. David Michael Colvard M.D., six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Having a lifelong interest in fashion, she worked for many years as a buyer and retailer for Rich’s Department Stores (now part of Macy’s) until her retirement.
