Walter Donald Murray

Mr. Walter Donald Murray, 72, of E. Paoli Road, Carlton, husband of 32 years to the late Darla Jean Smith Murray, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024, at his residence. 

Mr. Murray was born in Athens on May 17, 1951, son of the late Robert Murray and Bobbie Jean Mann Murray. He was a graduate of Madison County High School and devoted his life to serving others through law enforcement. Walt was former Police Chief of Comer and also worked as a Deputy with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. He was presently a traffic cop for Comer Elementary School. He loved the school children and looked forward to seeing them each day. 

Surviving are his sons: James Branton Murray and his wife April of Colbert and John Robert “Robbie” Murray of Carlton; and grandsons: Nykolas Murray and Hunter Murray. 

In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Linda Murray Motes.
