Mr. William ‘Wayne’ Poss, 77, of Rayle, GA, died on Sunday, April 30, 2023, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Rayle, GA on July 7, 1945, the 7th of 8 children born to Henry Millard Poss and Sallie Mae Sherrer Poss of Wilkes County, GA. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Wolfe Poss; brothers: Charles Poss, Carlton “Pete” Poss, Grady Poss, and Franklin Poss; sister, Flora Poss Smith; brothers-in-law: Johnny Shedd and Buddy Smith; and sisters-in-law: Janice Poss and Betty Poss,
Survivors include two sisters: Kathryn Shedd and Peggy (Johnnie) Walker; sister-in-law, Marie Poss; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Wayne was a graduate of Truett McConnell College and a veteran of the Vietnam War. In addition to serving three years, 1965-1968, in the United States Army, he faithfully served 18 additional years in the Army Reserves.
Wayne began work with Rayle Electric Membership Corporation in 1969 as a lineman and later held many positions. He was General Manager from 1992 until 1996, and was Manager of Engineering and Operations when he retired after 31 years of service. Wayne later worked at Anthony Wood Products and was a member of Bethel Church in Wilkes County.
Graveside services celebrating Wayne’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 3, at 3:00p.m. at the Carter’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 6080 Lexington Road, Crawfordville, GA.
Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 53 Perimeter Center E, Suite 100, Atlanta, GA 30346.
