Mrs. Willie Mae Hammond,affectionately known to many as “Bill”, of Elberton, Georgia passed away Monday, March 25, 2013 at Hart Care Center at the age of 104. Mrs. Hammond was born in Royston, Georgia to the late William Jackson Lyle and Addie Sanders Lyle Yeargin.She was the widow of the late Jeptha Brown Hammond. Mrs. Hammond was Past Matron of Rose M. Ashby Chapter #106 Order of Eastern Star.She was also the oldest member of First Baptist Church, Elberton. Mrs. Hammond is survived by her daughters, Colleen Haralson (Kelsey) and Barbara Ann Hammond;a grandson, Randy Haralson (Debbie);and great-grandsons: Jake and Caleb Haralson, all of Elberton.In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hammond was preceded in death by a loving step-father who raised her, Mr. J. B. Yeargin; a sister, Winona Stone; and two brothers, Lamar Lyle and Paul Yeargin. A service to celebrate Mrs. Hammond’slife was held on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at The Chapel of Hicks Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Purvis officiating.Interment followed at Elmhurst Cemetery. You may express condolences to the family at www.hicksfuneral.com.
