Mrs. Winona Childs Palmer completed her earthly journey at Nancy Hart Nursing Center on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at the age of 99.Mrs. Palmer was born on July 6, 1916 in Elbert County to Thomas Banks and Clara Texas Childs. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, R. C. Palmer; ten brothers and sisters.Mrs. Palmer was the last surviving member of her family. She was an active member of Fortsonia Baptist Church her entire married life and served as Pianist for a number of years. Mrs. Palmer is survived by her two sons, Robert C. Palmer, Jr. (Virginia) of Anderson, SC and Willie Michael “Mickey”Palmer of Union Point, GA; five grandchildren, Valerie Palmer Williams (Tim), Vivian Palmer Kinlaw (David), Kristen Palmer Anderson (Jason), Nicholas Robert Palmer, Dmitri Banks Palmer; 9 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the staff of Nancy Hart Nursing Center for their dedicated care over the last five years.A special thank you to Mrs. Becky Smith for her loving devotion and care. A service to celebrate Mrs. Palmer's life was held on Saturday, May 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Fortsonia Baptist Church withRev. Al Butler and Rev. Connie Ivester officiating .The family received friends at the church at 10:00 a.m. just prior to the service. Interment followed at Forest Hills Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers were:Haley Fortson, Bill Palmer, Cecil Oakley, Jr. Kenneth Dye, Eddie Palmer and Tom McCall. Memorials may be made to Fortsonia Baptist Church, 2616 Washington Highway, Elberton, GA30635. Arrangements for Mrs. Winona Childs Palmer were in the care of Hicks Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Elberton.
