Born in Tallulah Falls , Georgia , he was the son of Zeb Lee and Anise Franklin Burrell. He was educated at Emory at Oxford , Emory University , Medical College of Georgia, and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He practiced medicine in Milledgeville, Athens , and Elberton. In 2009, he was named the âFather of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in Georgia ,â reflecting his instrumental role in the development of EMS for the past 30+ years. Survivors include his soulmate and wife of 59 years, Lenette Owens Burrell; their children by birth and by marriage: Lee and Edye Burrell; Nancy Burrell; Valerie Burrell and Tony Maresca; David and Laura Burrell. Siblings by birth and by marriage are Kathryn Burrell and Kal Kelehear and Stephen and Dianne Burrell; 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Elberton on Friday, June 5 at 2 PM, followed by the family receiving friends at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church from 3-5.
