Zenas “Zee” Alonza Massey, Jr., age 80, of Crawford, Georgia, died on Monday, February 1, 2021.
He was born April 12, 1940, in Griffin, Georgia to Zenas Alonza Massey, Sr., and Virginia Patrick Massey. After graduating from Griffin High School, Zenas attended the University of Georgia, then the OCS - Officer's Candidate School - in Ft. Benning, Georgia.
Zee was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned several medals, including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for Valor. He served as a Green Beret with combat tours in Vietnam and aided with the evacuation of Saigon. After being discharged from the U.S. Army in 1971 as a Major, he joined the Central Intelligence Agency and was director of anti-terrorist activities in France. In 1980, Zee returned to UGA and earned a PhD in Psychology. After working at the VA Hospital in Miami, Florida, Zee was in the Delta Force Unit during Desert Storm and continued working in counterterrorism until retiring in 2018.
In addition to his dedication to our country through his military service, Zee was a talented writer, a licensed pilot, a wine connoisseur, and an accomplished chef. He also enjoyed working on his small farm in Crawford, Georgia with his son, Sean.
He is survived by his wife, Lucia RS Massey, son Sean Patrick Massey, sister, Bertie Ann Hardy, niece, Laura Hardy Jones and her family, plus many cousins, as well as special friends.
There will be a private funeral service.
